A Luxurious Afternoon in the Miami Design District
Posted 12.26.2024There’s more to Miami than pristine beaches and azure water; there’s a booming cultural and culinary scene that’s the ideal alfresco indulgence, whether you want to gallery hop or shop the day away in the city’s near-perfect weather. Residents of the Miami Edgewater condos at Missoni Baia are just a five-minute drive from the city’s center of glamor and fun—the Design District.
A trip to the Design District is no ordinary shopping stroll. It’s an event because the best-of-the-best restaurants, fashion brands, and galleries call this upscale enclave home. Think of it as Fifth Avenue meets Rodeo Drive in the Florida sunshine. Whether you have a taste for cutting-edge art, high fashion, or haute cuisine, you’re in luck with a trip to the Design District.
It seems that only in Miami would a contemporary art gallery based in a small town in Uruguay find its perfect niche in the US. And that’s just what the Piero Atchugarry Gallery has done. It instantly became a home for modern international artists—particularly sculptors—when it opened in 2014 in Garzón, Uruguay. In 2018, they grew internationally and initiated the ever-popular Miami outpost. Here, the gallery and its curators use what they call an “instructional approach” to shepherd and cultivate artists through residencies in their massive space in the Design District location. Take a look at the open-air, seemingly graph-paper-inspired geometric mural by Brazilian artist Lydia Okumura.
For a decidedly modern form of art—automotive design—take a walk through Prestige Imports Performing Art Pop-Up to see what high-design on four wheels looks like as you review the ultimate in automobiles.
If you prefer haute couture over fast cars, you have plenty of boutiques to choose from.
Those with a sartorial leaning will find world-class brands like Dior and Hermès alongside smaller, but no less fashionable, boutiques. Here, you can get everything from a once-in-a-lifetime outfit to an everyday fragrance. For the fashion-inclined kid and teenager, C’est Chou by Sienna is the spot. The shop wants girls and young women to take fashion into their own hands and be able to choose from a comprehensive selection of designers from around the world.
Young or old, everyone in Florida knows that one of the only accessories that matters are your sunglasses. For over a decade, I on the District has been providing frames to the who’s who of Miami. Stop in to see the curated selection and try a pair for yourself.
End your trip to the Design District with an essential cooldown with some artisanal natural ice cream or popsicles from Ladyfingrs pushcart. You can even get a whole box of pops to take back to your Miami Bayfront condos at Missoni Baia.
