Help Locally at Missoni Baia
Posted 12.21.2024With everything that’s been happening in 2020, the concept of community is well and truly back on the agenda. Residents can give back to the East Edgewater, and wider Miami community, by lending a hand to local foundations and organizations. We’ve rounded up a few, but there are plenty more just in the local community of Edgewater!
National YoungArts Foundation
The main campus\national headquarters of National YoungArts Foundation is just a few (dance) steps away from the Missoni Baia condos in Midtown Miami, so this cultural institution is close to the hearts of Edgewater residents. Its mission is to nourish and nurture young talent in the fields of visual, literary, and performing arts—helping them forge careers and realize dreams. Make a donation on the website or become a member of the Benefactor’s Circle—a network of arts-loving philanthropists who enjoy VIP access to National YoungArts Foundation events. A highlight of the year is the Backyard Ball—a rip-roaring celebration of YoungArts winners, featuring live music and dance, courtesy of students and alumni. Make a note to be at 2021’s ball.
Miami Rescue Mission
There are various Midtown branches of Miami Rescue Mission—although you’ll find them dotted across the city. In 2019, it provided 375,000 nights of safe shelter and almost a million meals to people in need. Homelessness has encountered new challenges in light of the pandemic, and this charity needs more help than ever—as well as volunteers to keep its centers running. The good news: you can get involved in many different ways: sign up for the Meals Club and help people get something to eat; take part in the Pack the Pantry Food Drive; join Girlfriends 4 Girlfriends, which aids women and children coming out of domestic violence or homelessness; or volunteer to serve meals, work in a thrift store, or organize events.
Foundation for New Education Initiatives
Miami-Dade public schools benefit greatly from the Foundation for New Education Initiatives—its motto, after all, is “giving our students the world.” Among the initiatives are college scholarships, a summer youth internship program, and mini-grants for teachers and schools. From these emerge new skills and opportunities for Miami students, and lives change for the better. Right now, the Foundation is committed to feeding less well-off members of the community. More than 500 hot meals are being delivered to students and their families each day, courtesy of COVID-19 relief efforts. As well as donating generously, you can sign up for an event, including the For the Love of Learning Gala in February 2021.
